ABSTRACT

Objective: To compare the therapeutic efficacy between warm needling moxibustion and electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney. Methods: Seventy patients with simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney were randomly divided into a warm needling moxibustion group and an EA group, with 35 subjects in each group. Same major acupoints were selected for the two groups, including Shuifen (CV 9), Guanyuan (CV 4), Daheng (SP 15), Shuidao (ST 28), Shousanli (LI 10), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taixi (KI 3). The warm needling moxibustion group received warm needling moxibustion, while the EA group received EA treatment. The interventions were performed once every other day, with 15 treatments as one course. The therapeutic efficacy, body weight and body mass index (BMI) were then observed and compared. Results: The total effective rate in the warm needling moxibustion group was 85.7% versus 77.1% in the EA group, and the between-group difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The warm needling moxibustion was remarkably superior to the EA in weight loss and lowering BMI, both with statistical significance (P<0.05, P<0.01). At the three-month follow-up, the body weight and BMI further decreased in the warm needling moxibustion group (both P<0.05), and the levels were lower than those in the EA group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion: Warm needling moxibustion can produce reliable and consistent efficacy in the treatment of simple obesity due to yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney. Compared with EA, warm needling moxibustion shows advantage in both short-term and long-term efficacies, and thus is worth promotion in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of the modified Yulin Decoction on improving the living quality of patients with yang-deficiency of the spleen and kidney of premature ovarian failure. Methods One hundred and twenty-seven patients were divided into experimental group (80) and control group (47) by non-randomized noninferiority comparative study. The experimental group was treated with modified Yulin Decoction daily orally once a day. The control group was treated with oral estradiol valerate and progesterone cycle. Two groups received continuous medication for 21 d, and treatment interval was 5 d. Three cycles of treatment were set as one course, and treated for 2 courses. The SF-36 scale was used to calculate the total scores and scores of eight dimensions before and after treatment. Results Before treatment, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) in the scores of SF-36 dimensions (except somatic pain) and total score between the two groups. Compared with before treatment, the score and total score of SF-36 in the experimental group increased (P<0.05, P<0.01). The mental health score of the control group was higher than that of before treatment (P<0.05, P<0.01). After treatment, there was statistical significance in the two dimensions of vitality and mental health in the two groups (P<0.05). There were significant differences (P<0.01) in the total score and scores of SF-36 physiological function, physical pain, general health, vigor, social function, emotional function and mental health between the two groups. Conclusion Modified Yulin Decoction can improve the living quality of patients with yang-deficiency of the spleen and kidney of premature ovarian failure.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the distribution of TCM Syndromes of Parkinson's disease(PD).Methods The 125 PD patients were graded according to Hoehn-Yahr(H&Y) criteria for assessment. The assigned TCM physician investigated TCM syndromes of these patients with the structured questionnaire which was based on literature and experience of experts. Results Of 125 cases,96 ones(76.8%) presented a single syndrome, and 29 ones(23.2%) presented complex syndrome. The positive rate of main syndrome was in an order of deficiency of both the Spleen and Kidney(22.4%),yin deficiency of the Liver and Kidney(18.4%),yang deficiency of the Spleen and Kidney(16%),qi deficiency of both qi and yin(15.2%),phlegm-heat stirring up the wind(12.8%),qi deficiency with blood stasis(4.8%),deficiency of both yin and yang(4%),damp abundance due to the Spleen deficiency(3.2%),endoretention of damp heat(1.6%),stagnation of the Liver qi with deficiency of the Spleen and Liver fire flaring(0.8%).There existed a significant difference in the distribution of TCM syndromes in H&Y 1.0~1.5 and H&Y 2.0~3.0(P
